Cogitavi commentary

The Science, Innovation and Technology Committee's July 2025 report addresses algorithmic amplification of harmful content and misinformation, with particular attention to platform demoderation since 2022 and the summer 2024 UK riots as a case study in domestic disinformation amplified by foreign interference. The report examines the National Security Online Information Team (NSOIT) and Online Safety Act implementation gaps.

The summer 2024 riots case study is the report's most analytically important contribution: it demonstrated — in a UK domestic context — the interaction between domestic disinformation, algorithmic amplification, and foreign interference that the FIMI literature has previously documented primarily in electoral contexts.
